I recently found the unsubmitted mix I made for the Best Buy Elizabethtown Ultimate Road Trip Playlist contest. I was looking for others and found your Substack. I too have been fascinated by this movie for years, though not in a positive way like you. A screenplay like this needed exactly the right actors to center that dialogue into a more believable reality and Crowe did not succeed (he failed twice with the lead!). He hasn’t really recovered his fastball after this misstep, but the aftermath of the ill-advised making and release of the movie is actually the thing that has been the most relatable for me, long-term.
Very cool; Crowe's certainly been an influence on my own personal playlists over the years! Whatever others might think of it, I sure am grateful this movie exists.

Here’s that mix (contest limited you to 12 tracks - the longer, even more unfinished version was better): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5kWS2wE8pxkDo1j4JaB7Mb?si=ivOu7ZBAQIWf8bh7LlT7iA&pi=A6XmazRaTP6si
