Great read, especially source books each of us identify with that helped shape our lives. Mine would be Peter Camenzind by H. Hesse.

I love this! Thanks for reminding me I still need to read Steppenwolf...

Thank you so much for the shout out, Abigail! Glad you enjoyed the WHMS issue. I'd been looking for an excuse to write about Reiner for a while.

As for actors returning for the remake, this probably doesn't officially count, but I'll forever be fascinated by Evil Dead 2 (one of my all-time favorite movies), wherein Sam Raimi brought Bruce Campbell back to play the same character in a sequel that isn't really a sequel because it rewrites the original with a different tone and a different ending. I wonder if Campbell thought he was crazy for that.

Ahh this is great, thanks Jeremy! I just found an interview with Campbell where he talks about it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzOIHOjYcqM) -- sounds like it was a rights issue? Those can be such a pain in the butt, but on the other hand end up leading to some wildly creative workarounds. I could probably write a whole separate newsletter about "requels"!

Wow, I hadn't even considered a rights issue. 😂 Would love to see a newsletter on requels!

Terrence Stamp, sort of, in Poor Cow and The Limey?

Oooh this sounds like an interesting pair to deep-dive! Haven't seen either yet but what I'm reading about the use of flashback sounds really interesting

Yeah, very much worth checking out!

(Confession: I've only seen The Limey, not Poor Cow.)

Haha noted; guess I'll have to decide which one to watch first! Chronological order usually makes sense, but could be interesting to watch The Limey then see the flashbacks in context in Poor Cow. Thanks for the rec!
